Hey ya’ll. Here’s my picks for the 2009 CMA Awards in the major categories. If anyone can outpick me (meaning you get more right than I do) I’ll give you a free t-shirt from our good friends at www.FarmBoyBrand.com. Just shoot me an email to kelly@thefarmradio.com with your picks in the categories below. Email must arrive by 7pm Wed, Nov 11th. Include your mailing address. Here we go:
VOCAL GROUP…I’m not a fan, because they ain’t country, but Rascal Flatts wins this one easily.
VOCAL DUO…Could be Brooks & Dunn’s final year to win it, but they go out with a whimper not a bang. Sugarland wins here!
SONG OF THE YEAR…This award goes to the songwriter and even though I would love to see Randy Travis win it for “I Told You So”, the trophy will go to Jamey Johnson, Lee Thomas Miller and James Otto for “In Color”–a truly great country song in every sense of the word!
SINGLE OF THE YEAR…This award goes to the artist and Jamey wins again for “In Color”. It will be difficult for him to ever follow-up this song. I smell a one-hit wonder in the making.
NEW ARTIST…Tough to argue with three #1 singles in a row to start a country career. Congrats Darius Rucker!
MALE VOCALIST…Coin flip category. My money is on George Strait.
FEMALE VOCALIST…The CMA gives this one to Taylor Swift, so they don’t have to give her the Entertainer of the Year award (even though she probably deserves it).
ALBUM OF THE YEAR…Jamey Johnson picks up his 3rd trophy of the night for a gritty, raw, tell-it-like-it-is country album.
ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR…It’s definitely time to honor Brad Paisley for the country superstar he’s become! Way to go BP!
